The Dwarven Barkeep's Rumours

When you greet the dwarven barkeep in Khazarad, he has 5 different rumours for you...

"The Loremaster's assistant was in here the other day, and said that his master was all excited about something that happened far off to the east, in the Dragon's Teeth hills. The lad was over-enthusiastic and much of what he said wasn't very clear, but after a few mugs of ale he calmed down. Apparently a massive fireball from the sky shot down into the Dragon's Teeth, though why that would excite him so I cannot understand. He said something about it being special, from far beyond our realm. Hrmph. Nonsense, if you ask me."

"I've heard that those cursed Duergar are planning a massive attack, to sack Khazarad and slay the king. That's a laugh, they'd break themselves on our defenses, and they'd be outnumbered more than one hundred to one. The mere fact that those grey dwarves are related to us disgusts me, but it will never be said that a dwarf underestimates his enemy-- they're a cunning lot, and who knows what devilish plot they'l try next. Mark my words, we should root out their nest and exterminate the whole bunch like rodents. If only we could find out where it is, of course."

"Some tell that a strange ruin has been discovered below one of the middle mines. It seems that the dwarf who broke through the mine wall into it saw tall, heavyset humanoid creatures with shaggy white fur roaming about. According to him, they worshipped some sort of black obelisk, and seemed at least partly intelligent. One saw him though, and he fled before he could be caught. Who knows what such savage beasts might do?"

"Rumour has it that the great dwarven hero Gudruk is sorely wounded and is recovering in the temple. Such a thing hasn't happened for quite some time-- Gudruk is the eldest and most skilled warrior in all the Kingdom. The last time he was wounded is when he decided he could defeat the old sand dragon far up in its mountain perch. Heh heh... he learned a sore lesson that time. He was young and impetuous then, and I was barely thirty, not even a third his age! Anyway, I heard that there's some disturbance in the deepest mines, and indeed king Kulgar has ordered that they be closed until the matter is investigated. I do not know what could best Gudruk-- with his mithril axe he is unstoppable. It worries me greatly."

"I've heard many grumblings about the fact that the barricade was opened, after being sealed for so long. Some say that it's bad luck, that we're better off keeping out gates closed, but I say that business has never been more profitable! It's refreshing seeing strangers about, as well-- as long as they behave."
