| Captain of the Guard | This fearsome-looking dark-elf is garbed in black field plate and wears
a robe of the deepest crimson. His face is completely obscured by the lowered
visor of his helmet, which emanates a dull blackness. He deftly wields
a large claymore that pulsates with blue energy.

| Carnivorous Plant | This large, spiny plant has many broad jagged-edged leaves. Its thick
stem supports a bulbous head filled with inward curving teeth. Dozens of
tendrils sprouting from its base move it about, and wave menacingly.

| Carrion Beast | This creature is an obvious mutation: it is the size of a small dog,
and is furred, but has six jointed legs and a snout bristling with gnarled
fangs. The carrion beast is known to be a berserker when disturbed, and
can be tough to kill.

| Carrion Crawler | This fat, hideous insectile beast resembles a nine foot-long maggot,
except with eight long thin tentacles ringing its mouth, and two dozen
legs. It slithers towards you, its tentacles waving about in the air as
if searching for prey!

| Catoblepas | This ugly beast resembles a fat, misshapen buffalo, with short stumpy
legs and a long neck. It has a snakelike tail topped with a knobbly bone
ball, and a large head on the end of its neck tht droops down under its
own weight. Its red bloodshot eyes glow softly.

| Cave Bear | This huge, menacing bear seems to be more demon than beast. Its red
eyes glare at you malevolently, and it roars a challenge as it approaches.
Its sharp curved claws appear to be able to part stone as easily as flesh.

| Cave Lizard | This stocky eight-foot long lizard is speckled green and grey. Its
four legs are quite powerfully muscled, and its mouth is full of six inch
long fangs. Speeding towards you, it drools expectantly!

| Cave Worm | This long, grey worm is about one foot in diameter, with pale gelatinous
eyes and a maw full of three inch long needle-sharp teeth. It weaves about
as if searching for prey. Cave worms are quite tough, and when they hit
inflict horrible jagged wounds.

| Centipede | This two-foot-long creature is titanic compared to normal centipedes.
Its flesh is pale white, its eyes and hundreds of legs black and shiny.
Known to be poisonous, they are extremely fast and can deliver painful
bites.

| Champion Gudruk | This massively-muscled dwarf appears to be recovering from some nasty
wounds. Bandages bound about his head, body and arms are spotted with red.
Although he is wounded, he still maintains a fierce burning gaze, and has
an aura of indomitable strength about him.
The massive dwarven hero props himself on one elbow, and leans over the edge of the bed. With a small grimace of pain, he says: "God's breath and bones, these bandages will be the death of me. I can barely move an inch without feeling like a trussed-up banquet pig! Ahh, never the worry though. I've recovered from worse." With that, he winks and breaks out in a broad grin. "Now what have you come to visit me for? I don't remember meeting any strangers of late, but then again, I did take a nasty blow to the head." |
| Champion of Blood | This tall, massively muscled man is garbed in an exotic collection
of black platemail and red robes. He wields a heavy, evil-looking sword,
and from the depths of his helm, his eyes glow with a fervent light. The
overwhelming aura of evil surrounding this man makes you shudder!
The Champion of Blood laughs gleefully, "So, more blood for the blood god. My blade will greedily drink of yours, cur, and my powers will increase even more! What foolishness makes you think you have a chance against me? Fool, prepare to meet your maker." |
| Chancellor Annora | This thin-featured woman is the embodiment of patience -- her steely
blue eyes could make a rock blink first. She is garbed in lightly embroidered
silk robes, and is surrounded with an air of confident dignity, which is
reinforced by her obvious advanced age.
Chancellor Annora smiles at you as you approach, and motions for you to sit down in one of the chairs. She looks you up and down, and says: "Evidently you know who I am, or you would not be here. You must therefore be here on some business, though if I may be so rude, please keep it brief-- we are extremely busy here of late, and I will be up late into the night completing paperwork and copying scrolls. But, if you have proven youself trustworthy in the past, I may have some new missions for you." |
| Chest | This appears to be a large, ordinary-looking wooden chest. It is bound
with iron bands, and sits upon four short steel feet.

| Chimera | This ugly beast has the hindquarters of a huge goat, and the forequarters
of a lion. Its body has black wings like those of a dragon. The chimera
has three heads, one of a goat, one of a lion, and one of an orange-scaled
dragon. They are known to be voracious in appetite.

| Cleric Spirit | The image of a short, stocky dwarf clad in shining mail and bearing
a massive warhammer stands before you. The dwarf's fierce grin can be seen
through his winged helm, and as you approach he raises a mailed fist in
greeting.
The cleric spirit greets you with a bow, saying "Welcome young one. Thy travels have brought thee far, to find me in this cursed tomb where I am bound. The dark one was cruel indeed to keep my spirit in this plane after we were vanquished, but even in defeat there can be hope. I have little left to offer, save my experiences fighting the unnamed one. My skill is thine to learn from, and I would gladly train thee to the next level of advancement. One more thing I can offer you: seek the old one in the heart of the darkenwood, he alone lived through the Great Wars, and he alone has mastery enough to provide thee with the necessary learning you shall surely need in the future." |
| Cockatrice | This repulsive hybrid bird is abou the size of a large gooze. It has the body and head of a rooster, with two ghoulish bat wings and a spiked lizard tail. It eyes you hungrily. |
| Cocoon | This is a large, oval-shaped cocoon fastened to the wall here. It is a pale translucent white in color, and pulsates slightly. Inside you can see the vague dark shape of a body! |
| Colin | Colin is a tall, moderately-built human with short, dark, greying hair.
He appears to be near fifty years of age, but he has a youthfulness about
him which is reflected in his slate-colored eyes. He appears to be one
who would have many tales to tell.
Colin looks you up and down, and greets you with a warm smile. He says, "Welcome to mine humble store, adventurer. In these dangerous times, it is wise to go armed. I have many weapons for those whose faith prohibits the use of bladed arms, or for those to whom bloodshed is unseemly. My stock is filled with blunt weapons of every size and description, suited for use by the mildest priest, to the brawniest warrior. Please, look over my fine inventory, I am sure thou wouldst find something to thy liking." He waves a calloused hand over his broad case of weapons. |
| Commander Markus | This bearlike, muscular man is quite tall and wide, but is not fat
-- he is a mountain of pure muscle. He is garbed in shining chainmail,
and a long two-handed sword is strapped to his back. His intense blue eyes
seem to note every detail of his surroundings.
Commander Markus turns to you, his intimidating features furrowed with a frown. "What business do you have here," he rumbles, "this is no place for idle adventuring. This outpost is regularly besieged by vicious and evil creatures never meant to exist in this land! However, as you must have travelled far to reach me, I suppose that you must be on some sort of business... if so, explain it quickly, as I have little time to spare." |
| Constrictor | More than thirty feet long this brown and green banded serpent moves exceedinly quickly for its massive size. A large forked tongue slips in and out of its mouth as it stares at you longingly with deep crimson eyes. |
| Coral Lobster | The meat of a coral lobster could feed the entire complemetn of Silvermere's guards quite easily. At the size of a small cart its claws become lethal weapons and its outer covering, which is itself made of coral, becomes nearly impenetrable. |
| Corwyn | Before you stands a fine example of a fighting man. He is well-muscled
and stands with the relaxed but alert posture of someone who is used to
combat. If the silence with which he moves is anything to go by, then fighting
is not all he has some knowledge of.
The formidable-looking man says, "Greetings, journeyman. If thou seekest training in arts martial or magical, I be he who shall instruct thee. If thou needst advancement in other skills, such as hunting or stealth, I have considerable ability in those areas as well. For a modest fee I will aid thee to hone thy skills, simply BUY TRAINING from me and we shall get to work." |
| Crane Spirit | Tall, slender and moving with a deliberate grace this spirit looks to pose no threat. A beautiful set of white feathers cover the birds body excepting the tips of its wing which seem to have a crimson tinge. |
| Crazed Lunatic #1 & #2 | This naked, drooling idiot runs about like, well, a madman. He has
obviously escaped from the local mental asylum, and is delighting in his
freedom to streak once more.

| Crimson Mist | This mysterious swirling mist flies through the air with great speed.
Flashing within the mist are tiny red lights, and emanating from the mist
cloud are sounds which resemble the shrieking and moaning o hundreds of
tortured beings!

| Crippled Adventurer | This middle-aged man has a grizzled brown beard, only just beginning
to turn grey. He is missing his left leg, and walks with the aid of a crutch.
His right arm is withered and is swathed in bandages, and one eye is simply
a mass of scars. He moves as though in great pain.
The crippled adventurer says, in a powerful voice, "Greetings, ADVENTURER, and health to you. Though my appearance belies it, I once was a QUESTER such as yourself. I met my match in a hellishly perplexing LABYRINTH, just to the north of here... the BEASTS inside took me apart, as you can see, and nearly took my life." |
| Crocodile | This terror of the swamp sports tough, natural armor plating, and a
long snout filled with vicious teeth. A powerful killer, the crocodile
lurks in wait for its prey, then strikes with great speed.

| Crystalline Spider | This large, shining creature appears to be a strange combination of
hard black shell and glittering crystal. It moves about on spiky, angular
legs, scuttling about with incredible speed.

| Cutpurse | This sneaky creature thinks he's crept up to you. He is quite stupid
though and probably doesn't realize that you've noticed him. In his right
hand he holds a dull dagger.

| Cyclops | This huge, powerfully-built humanoid is garbed in ragged skins, and
wields a large twisted tree trunk in one hand. Its single baleful eye glows
with a greenish fire. Wound about one of its wrists is some sort of bracelet,
probably belt-sized on a normal human.
