MMEdit

Locke Cole, a long time player, has created a hot database viewer. The following are his instructions for downloading, installing, and using this viewer. MMEDIT will show you 100% accurate stats on items, monsters, spells, rooms, shops and more. It works directly off the databases, allowing you to upgrade yourself as MajorMUD upgrades.

To download this easy to use program, click here or go to go to http://www.icehouse.net/llt, and follow the link in the top frame to 'MMEDIT'. Then scroll down to 'Downloads' and download the MMEDIT archive, OR, click on the link in this message. =)

UPDATES FOR 2.25

Added a DOS shell command from the main menu, also added a LOT of 'goto' locations for Module 7 to NPC's, bosses and areas. Fixed some minor bugs with searching, and other minor enhancements.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS (for first time users):

Once you've downloaded MMEDIT, unzip the entire archive into the directory you'd like MMEDIT to reside in. For example, C:\MMEDIT. There is no installation program to run, except for unzipping the archive.

You'll also need the MajorMUD databases, which can be downloaded from http://www.majormud.com. When you go to the 'MajorMUD Baseline Software' page, select the 'Worldgroup 1.x / 2.x' archive as your download. You can also download a zipped file here from the DOS version that contains only the .VIR files you will need. Warning.. this file is over 31 Megs when unzipped!

Once this file has been downloaded, unzip it into a temporary directory, for example, C:\TEMP. Once you've done this you should find WCCMMUD.ZIP amongst some other files. At the MS-DOS command line, while in the temporary directory you made, execute this command--

PKUNZIP WCCMMUD.ZIP *.VIR C:\MMEDIT

Replace C:\MMEDIT with the directory you chose to install MMEDIT into. Once you've completed this step, you can delete the files in the temporary directory.

Note: I have had just as much success using WinZip, and selecting only the .VIR files to extract. What seems to make the difference is placing the MMEdit files AND the .VIR files in the same directory. You can also use this for any version of Major Mud your board is using.. just get your sysop to make a zipped file of the .VIR files.

Now you're ready to run MMEDIT for the first time. Simply go to the directory you installed it into and execute MMEDIT at the command prompt. If you're running MMEDIT through Windows Explorer or the Start Menu's Run command, be sure to run MMEDIT.COM, **NOT** MMEDIT.EXE. MMEDIT.COM performs required initialization for MMEDIT.EXE to run.

If you are using this program as a database viewer only, you can ignore the bits about registration. MMEdit is also a database editor that is fully functional and very powerful. If you have questions or problems, you may email Locke Cole at edge@boink.net, or drop me a line (webmistress@mmudville.com) and I will try to help you as well.
